Sun's Death Could Destroy Solar System 100 Times Faster Than Thought
Times of India · science
A new study suggests the Sun's death could be more chaotic than previously believed, potentially destroying the Solar System much faster. Instead of a smooth mass loss, the Sun may shed matter in unpredictable bursts, disturbing planetary orbits. Computer simulations indicate that in about 90% of scenarios, the outer Solar System becomes unstable within three billion years after the Sun becomes a white dwarf. This turbulent process could lead to planets being flung into interstellar space or swapping orbits, a stark contrast to the previously assumed peaceful, slow fade.
