Former India hockey captain Sardar Singh believes the national team possesses the quality to compete with top international sides but needs to improve discipline and man-marking. He noted that while India matches rivals in ball possession, a significant gap exists in defensive marking, which European teams and Australia exploit. Singh highlighted that Indian hockey has progressed significantly in the last decade, with improvements in fitness and mental strength for both men's and women's teams.
