Allahabad HC Orders UP Polls Within 3 Months, Upholds OBC Reservation

The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh State Election Commission to conduct elections for Panchayati Raj institutions within three months. A bench comprising Justices Ajit Kumar and Garima Prashad passed the order while allowing a plea to expedite the process. The court mandated that elections to Zila Panchayats, Kshetra Panchayats, and Gram Panchayats must be completed within this timeframe. Crucially, the court stated that existing reservation arrangements, including 27% for Other Backward Classes, must be maintained during these polls.

इलाहाबाद हाई कोर्ट ने उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य चुनाव आयोग को तीन महीने के भीतर पंचायती राज संस्थाओं के चुनाव कराने का निर्देश दिया है। जस्टिस अजीत कुमार और गरिमा प्रसाद की पीठ ने एक याचिका पर सुनवाई करते हुए यह आदेश पारित किया, जिसमें प्रक्रिया में तेजी लाने की मांग की गई थी। अदालत ने कहा कि जिला पंचायतों, क्षेत्र पंचायतों और ग्राम पंचायतों के चुनाव इस समय सीमा के भीतर पूरे होने चाहिए। सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बात यह है कि अदालत ने कहा कि इन चुनावों के दौरान अन्य पिछड़ा वर्ग (OBC) के लिए 27% आरक्षण सहित मौजूदा आरक्षण व्यवस्था को बनाए रखा जाना चाहिए।
