Indian Stock Market Falls Sharply; Sensex Slumps Over 500 Points
Economic Times Markets · stocks
The Indian stock market reversed its opening gains on Monday, with the Sensex dropping over 500 points to below 71,900 and the Nifty 50 falling below 22,400. This sharp selloff was driven by several factors, including rising global bond yields and persistent selling by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). The India VIX, a measure of market volatility, surged over 7%. Despite the benchmark indices falling, broader markets like the Nifty Midcap 100 and Smallcap 100 indices saw gains, and overall market breadth remained positive.
