India's National Medical Commission Cracks Down On Unqualified Cosmetic Practitioners

Times of India · health

NMC has introduced a strict ethical framework to regulate the booming cosmetic medicine industry. The move aims to differentiate legitimate clinical care from commercial hype, particularly concerning 'glow-ups' promoted on social media. Many unqualified individuals, often holding short certificates, are offering procedures like laser treatments and fillers, posing risks to patients. The NMC clarifies that 'cosmetology' is not a recognized medical specialty, unlike dermatology, which requires extensive training. Non-core practitioners are now prohibited from performing advanced aesthetic procedures.
