Libya's strategic value has increased amid the global energy crisis, offering an opportunity to boost hydrocarbon revenues. The nation possesses Africa's largest proven oil reserves and substantial natural gas, with export routes via the Mediterranean and a direct pipeline to Europe. However, Libya faces significant challenges, including domestic energy insecurity with frequent blackouts and inefficient systems. Despite vast resources, over 70 percent of gas is consumed domestically, while substantial amounts are flared due to underdeveloped infrastructure. Addressing these internal issues is crucial to avoid exacerbating instability.
