UPI Introduces Merchant Discount Rate For Certain Transactions

UPI is entering a new phase with the introduction of a Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on specific transactions. Starting October 15, an MDR of 0.4% will apply to person-to-merchant payments exceeding ₹2,000, capped at ₹300. Transactions below ₹2,000 and all person-to-person payments remain free. This move aims to establish sustainable economics for the digital payment ecosystem, acknowledging the continuous infrastructure and operational investments required by banks and fintechs. The framework ensures costs are shared across the ecosystem, not borne by a single participant.

UPI एक नए दौर में प्रवेश कर रहा है, जिसमें कुछ खास भुगतानों पर मर्चेंट डिस्काउंट रेट (MDR) लागू किया जा रहा है। 15 अक्टूबर से, ₹2,000 से अधिक के व्यक्ति-से-व्यापारी भुगतानों पर 0.4% का MDR लागू होगा, जिसकी अधिकतम सीमा ₹300 होगी। ₹2,000 से कम के लेनदेन और सभी व्यक्ति-से-व्यक्ति भुगतान मुफ्त रहेंगे। इस कदम का उद्देश्य डिजिटल भुगतान पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र के लिए स्थायी अर्थशास्त्र स्थापित करना है, जो बैंकों और फिनटेक द्वारा आवश्यक निरंतर बुनियादी ढांचे और परिचालन निवेश को स्वीकार करता है। यह ढांचा सुनिश्चित करता है कि लागत पूरे पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र में साझा की जाए, न कि किसी एक प्रतिभागी पर डाली जाए।
