Fishing May Alter Pearly Razorfish At Molecular Level

Heavy fishing could be altering pearly razorfish at a molecular level, a new study suggests. While no significant DNA changes were found, researchers observed differences in DNA methylation, an epigenetic process influencing gene activity. The study also highlights the benefits of marine reserves in preserving larger, older fish and maintaining greater genetic diversity within fish populations.

नई स्टडी के मुताबिक, ज़्यादा मछली पकड़ने से पर्ली रेज़रफिश में आणविक स्तर पर बदलाव आ सकते हैं। डीएनए में कोई बड़ा बदलाव तो नहीं मिला, लेकिन वैज्ञानिकों ने डीएनए मेथाइलेशन में फ़र्क देखा है। यह एक ऐसी प्रक्रिया है जो जीन के काम करने के तरीके को बदलती है। स्टडी यह भी बताती है कि समुद्री रिज़र्व बड़े और बूढ़े मछलियों को बचाने और उनकी जेनेटिक विविधता बनाए रखने में कितने फ़ायदेमंद हैं।
