Fear of Truth Behind Film Screening Denials: Rajadhyaksha

Film scholar Ashish Rajadhyaksha suggested that documentaries are being denied screening at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) due to a fear of documentary truth. He noted that out of 31 films, only 24 received permission, with directors facing uncertainty and potential festival cancellations before screenings. Rajadhyaksha argued that this censorship, often under the guise of preventing incitement to violence, stems from a fear of how documentary cinema can produce truth. He highlighted that this pre-approval process, meant to protect directors, is now being misused.
