Supreme Court Slams States For Not Implementing Menstrual Hygiene Rights

The Supreme Court has expressed strong displeasure over states and Union Territories failing to respond to the Centre regarding the implementation of its judgment that declares menstrual hygiene a fundamental right under Article 21. Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan questioned how this right would be realised if states did not act. The court had previously directed states to report on deficiencies, but many have not responded to the Union government's inquiries.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों द्वारा केंद्र को अपने उस फैसले के कार्यान्वयन के बारे में जवाब न देने पर कड़ी नाराजगी जताई है, जिसमें मासिक धर्म स्वच्छता को अनुच्छेद 21 के तहत एक मौलिक अधिकार घोषित किया गया है। जस्टिस जे बी पारदीवाला और आर महादेवन ने सवाल किया कि अगर राज्य कार्रवाई नहीं करेंगे तो यह अधिकार कैसे साकार होगा। कोर्ट ने पहले राज्यों को कमियों पर रिपोर्ट करने का निर्देश दिया था, लेकिन कई ने केंद्र सरकार की पूछताछ का जवाब नहीं दिया है।
