Pune Retail Sugar Prices Jump ₹5/kg Ahead Of Diwali

Hindustan Times · business

Retail sugar prices in Pune have increased by ₹5 per kg in the last 10 days, reaching ₹59/kg ahead of Diwali. Merchants attribute this rise to higher wholesale prices, increased production costs, and seasonal demand. While retailers expect prices to hover around ₹60/kg during the festival, the state sugar commissioner stated there is sufficient stock of over nine lakh tonnes. Mills are selling sugar at approximately ₹50 per kg, a significant rise from last year's ₹39 per kg, due to increased production costs and lower sugarcane recovery rates this season.
