Butterflies Migrate in Large Numbers Across West Zone Districts; Roadkill Claims Hundreds
The Hindu · india
The onset of the Northeast monsoon has triggered a large-scale butterfly migration towards the Western Ghats foothills across Tamil Nadu's western districts. Observers from The Nature and Butterfly Society (TNBS) have documented significant movements of milkweed butterflies, including Blue Tigers and Crows, in districts like Salem, Erode, and Coimbatore. While the migration pattern mirrors observations since 2013, a concerning trend of butterflies flying closer to the ground led to hundreds of roadkills. This low-altitude flight path has raised alarms among naturalists monitoring the phenomenon.
The Nature and Butterfly Society (TNBS)
