India's extensive population census for 2027 is scheduled to commence on January 25 and conclude on February 28, with a reference date of March 1, 2027. However, the census will not be conducted in states facing assembly elections, including Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur, nor in snow-bound regions. An option for self-enumeration will be available from January 10 to January 24. This decennial exercise, costing ₹11,718 crore, was postponed from 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and is the eighth since India's independence.
