Plutonium Shortage May Stall Nuclear Projects

A global shortage of plutonium could significantly slow down innovative nuclear projects worldwide, according to the Financial Times. Building a large spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant requires substantial investment, estimated at around 40 billion euros. These facilities also demand a lengthy construction period of approximately 10 years.

फाइनेंशियल टाइम्स के मुताबिक, प्लूटोनियम की वैश्विक कमी दुनिया भर में परमाणु ऊर्जा से जुड़े नए प्रोजेक्ट्स को धीमा कर सकती है। एक बड़ा खर्च करके परमाणु ईंधन को दोबारा इस्तेमाल करने वाला प्लांट बनाने में करीब 40 अरब यूरो का भारी निवेश लगेगा। इन प्लांट्स को बनाने में लगभग 10 साल का लंबा समय भी लगता है।
