Anthrax Scare Cords Off Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve Area

A 1,500 square metre area within Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve has been cordoned off for three years following the death of a camp elephant due to anthrax infection. The affected site at the Tala elephant camp is now fenced to prevent contamination. Reserve management has intensified health checks for both departmental and wild elephants, numbering around 15 and 80-90 respectively. This measure follows a similar incident four months ago where another elephant died. Despite the scare, the reserve's 15 departmental elephants will resume their duties after the recent Elephant Festival.
