The Indian rupee strengthened by 49 paise to close at 95.28 against the US dollar on Tuesday, outperforming other Asian currencies. This rise followed measures introduced by the RBI to curb dollar demand and speculative trading. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that these curbs were necessary to address excessive volatility and one-sided bets that were distorting the rupee's true market value.
