Indian Bonds Rally as Oil Prices Fall and US Midterms Boost Safety
Economic Times Markets · stocks
Indian government bonds experienced a significant surge on Wednesday, driven by a steep decline in crude oil prices and positive sentiment following the US midterm elections. The benchmark 6.94% 2036 bond yield dropped by 4 basis points to 7.2594%, heading for a third consecutive day of declines. US Treasury yields also softened, with the 10-year yield easing to 4.94%. The Democratic victories in the US elections have raised hopes for Middle East peace and potentially curbed government spending, reducing inflation risks and easing worries about interest rate hikes in India.
