UN expert: US boat strikes may be crimes

A UN human rights expert has concluded that US attacks on suspected drug trafficking boats in the Caribbean and Pacific oceans violate international law and may constitute crimes against humanity. The US has struck 68 vessels between September 2025 and August this year, killing at least 223 people. The expert stated that drug trafficking does not meet the legal threshold for self-defence and that less-lethal alternatives were available.

संयुक्त राष्ट्र के मानवाधिकार विशेषज्ञ ने कहा है कि कैरिबियन और प्रशांत महासागरों में संदिग्ध ड्रग तस्करों की नावों पर अमेरिका के हमले अंतरराष्ट्रीय कानून का उल्लंघन हैं और ये मानवता के खिलाफ अपराध हो सकते हैं। सितंबर 2025 से अगस्त 2026 तक अमेरिका ने 68 नावों पर हमला किया, जिसमें कम से कम 223 लोग मारे गए। विशेषज्ञ ने बताया कि ड्रग तस्करी आत्मरक्षा के कानूनी दायरे में नहीं आती और इसके लिए कम घातक विकल्प मौजूद थे।
