India's CAFE III Norms From 2027 To Boost Fuel Efficiency

Times of India · automobile

India will implement new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE III) norms starting April 1, 2027, requiring automakers to progressively enhance the fuel efficiency of their passenger vehicle fleets until March 31, 2032. These regulations aim to reduce fuel consumption by approximately 16.7% by tightening fleet-average benchmarks. Carmakers must meet these targets by offering more efficient petrol cars, hybrids, EVs, and alternative-fuel models. While the new norms encourage cleaner technologies, the impact on car prices and actual running costs for consumers will depend on manufacturers' strategies and individual vehicle choices.
