The Karnataka High Court has cancelled the state's decision to increase reservation quotas for SC and ST. The court ruled that the 2022 law, which raised SC reservation from 15% to 17% and ST reservation from 3% to 7%, violated the Supreme Court's 50% cap on total reservations. This increase had pushed the overall reservation to 56%, exceeding the constitutional limit. The bench stated that the relevant sections of the Karnataka SC/ST Reservation Act, 2022, contravene constitutional articles related to equality and non-discrimination.
