James Webb Finds Chariklo Rings Evolving Rapidly

Nine years after astronomers discovered two rings around the 250-km-wide minor planet Chariklo, the James Webb Space Telescope has observed changes. The inner ring has become more opaque, while the outer ring appears weaker and more transparent. This rapid evolution suggests Chariklo's rings are far more dynamic than previously believed, changing significantly over just a few years. This discovery challenges earlier assumptions about the stability of ring systems around small celestial bodies.

नौ साल पहले खगोलविदों ने 250 किलोमीटर चौड़े क्षुद्रग्रह Chariklo के चारों ओर दो छल्ले खोजे थे। अब James Webb Space Telescope ने उनमें बदलाव देखा है। अंदर का छल्ला ज़्यादा घना हो गया है, जबकि बाहर वाला कमज़ोर और पारदर्शी लग रहा है। यह तेज़ी से हो रहा बदलाव बताता है कि Chariklo के छल्ले पहले सोचे गए से कहीं ज़्यादा गतिशील हैं, जो कुछ ही सालों में काफी बदल गए हैं।
