RBI's Rupee Defence Costs $60 Billion in Forex Reserves
Economic Times Markets · stocks
India's foreign exchange reserves have dropped by approximately $60 billion in the last six weeks, reaching $726.027 billion as of October 9. This significant decline is attributed to the Reserve Bank of India's aggressive dollar sales aimed at strengthening the rupee, which is currently one of Asia's weakest performing currencies. Foreign currency assets, the primary component of reserves, saw a decrease of $50.563 billion over the same period. The central bank's intervention was necessitated by factors including rising crude oil prices, increasing US yields, and consistent foreign capital outflows.
