Pope Leo XIV, 71, has been diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma, a common form of non-small cell lung cancer. He underwent surgery on Tuesday to remove the lower lobe of his right lung after the tumor was discovered during a routine health check. Adenocarcinoma develops in glandular cells and accounts for about 40% of all lung cancer cases, often growing slower and increasing detection chances. While smokers are most at risk, it is also the most common type among non-smokers.
