The Election Commission of India has refused to disclose the name and version of the software used for identifying errors in voter rolls during the SIR exercise. Citing commercial confidence, trade secrets, and intellectual property rights, the EC stated this information is exempt under the RTI Act. The response came after a social activist from Telangana filed an RTI plea seeking details about the software, algorithm, or AI platform used.
