Israel's Supreme Court has advised Sami Abu Shehadeh, leader of the Balad party, to withdraw his candidacy for the upcoming Knesset election. The court warned that a majority of judges favoured disqualifying him if he refused to step down. This comes as the court hears appeals against the Central Elections Committee's decision to disqualify Arab electoral lists. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir supported the disqualification, citing Abu Shehadeh's alleged sympathy for Hamas. Abu Shehadeh denied the accusations, stating his words were taken out of context.
