A Patiala court has sentenced former Punjab MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains to one year of rigorous imprisonment in a defamation case. The case was filed by former State Health Minister Brahm Mohindra in 2018, after Bains alleged irregularities in medicine procurement and links between Mohindra and a pharmaceutical company. The court found Bains guilty under Section 500 of the IPC, stating his allegations lowered Mohindra's reputation. Bains failed to provide sufficient evidence for his claims, which the court determined had damaged Mohindra's social and political standing.

पटियाला कोर्ट ने पूर्व पंजाब MLA सिमरजीत सिंह बैंस को मानहानि मामले में एक साल की सख़्त सज़ा सुनाई है। यह मामला 2018 में पूर्व राज्य स्वास्थ्य मंत्री ब्रह्म मोहिंद्रा ने दर्ज कराया था, जब बैंस ने दवा खरीद में अनियमितताओं और मोहिंद्रा व एक फार्मा कंपनी के बीच सांठगांठ का आरोप लगाया था। कोर्ट ने IPC की धारा 500 के तहत बैंस को दोषी पाया और कहा कि उनके आरोपों से मोहिंद्रा की इज़्ज़त कम हुई है। बैंस अपने दावों के लिए पर्याप्त सबूत पेश नहीं कर पाए, जिससे कोर्ट ने माना कि मोहिंद्रा की सामाजिक और राजनीतिक छवि को नुकसान पहुंचा है।
