Recent showers in the Srivaikuntam region have caused rainwater to enter excavated trenches and burial urns at the Archaeological Survey of India’s (ASI) Adichanallur site. Despite assurances, work on a protective shelter, including iron pillars for a galvanised-sheet roof, began only three days ago. Archaeology enthusiasts have urged authorities for nearly two years to replace temporary thatched roofing with a permanent structure. An ASI official stated that work on the permanent shelter will be completed within 15 days, assuring that excavated pottery and artefacts would not be affected.
