India's Forex Reserves Drop For Fifth Week To $726 Billion

Business Standard · business

India's foreign exchange reserves have fallen for the fifth consecutive week, reaching $726 billion as of October 9, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The reserves have declined by $59.7 billion over the past five weeks, following a record high of $785.71 billion on September 4. This drawdown is attributed to sustained pressure on the rupee from elevated crude oil prices, foreign portfolio outflows, and the RBI's interventions to curb currency market volatility by selling dollars. Foreign currency assets and gold reserves saw significant decreases during the week.
