Mississippi Sinks 31-Ton Propane Tank To Create Artificial Reef

Times of India · environment

A 31-ton propane tank and steel tower, formerly used for firefighter training in Mississippi, have been sunk 13 miles offshore in the Gulf of Mexico. This initiative aims to expand artificial reefs along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, providing shelter and food for fish. The project, supported by Chevron, involved multiple organizations including the Forts Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. Artificial reefs offer crucial habitats in areas with limited natural reef structures, supporting marine life and enhancing fishing opportunities.
