Assam to Establish India's First Public Proton Beam Therapy Unit

Assam has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Belgian firm Ion Beam Applications Particles to establish India's first public sector proton beam therapy centre. This advanced cancer treatment technology, previously only available in private hospitals at high costs, will now be accessible to patients in the northeastern state. The project, estimated at ₹600 crore, aims to significantly improve cancer care, particularly for children, and bolster medical tourism. The facility is expected to be operational within three years, making Assam a key player in global cancer care.

असम ने बेल्जियम की कंपनी Ion Beam Applications Particles के साथ भारत का पहला पब्लिक सेक्टर प्रोटॉन बीम थेरेपी सेंटर स्थापित करने के लिए एक समझौता ज्ञापन (MoU) पर हस्ताक्षर किए हैं। यह एडवांस्ड कैंसर ट्रीटमेंट टेक्नोलॉजी, जो पहले सिर्फ महंगे प्राइवेट अस्पतालों में उपलब्ध थी, अब पूर्वोत्तर राज्य के मरीजों के लिए सुलभ होगी। ₹600 करोड़ की अनुमानित लागत वाली इस परियोजना का लक्ष्य कैंसर देखभाल, खासकर बच्चों के लिए, में सुधार करना और मेडिकल टूरिज्म को बढ़ावा देना है। यह सुविधा तीन साल के भीतर चालू होने की उम्मीद है, जिससे असम ग्लोबल कैंसर केयर में एक प्रमुख खिलाड़ी बन जाएगा।
