केंद्रीय मंत्री नितिन गडकरी ने भारत की गंभीर सड़क सुरक्षा समस्या पर प्रकाश डाला। उन्होंने बताया कि देश में हर घंटे करीब 20 लोगों की सड़क दुर्घटनाओं में मौत हो जाती है। यह आंकड़ा युद्धों या बीमारियों से होने वाली मौतों से भी ज़्यादा है। इन चौंकाने वाले आँकड़ों से देश भर में सड़क सुरक्षा उपायों और जागरूकता अभियानों की तत्काल आवश्यकता का पता चलता है।
