Alternative accommodation options like homestays and vacation rentals are rapidly gaining popularity among Indian travellers, with their growth rate now exceeding that of traditional hotels. A joint report by Booking.com and VIDEC consultants reveals that digitally-distributed listings more than doubled from FY23 to FY26, reaching 215,000. The gross booking value also saw significant growth, projected to reach $4.7 billion by FY29. Business travel is increasingly contributing to this segment, with travellers opting for service apartments and private villas.
