MDR on UPI Transactions Over Rs 2,000 Deferred Post Diwali

The government has postponed the implementation of a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on UPI transactions exceeding Rs 2,000. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) announced that the charge will now come into effect after Diwali, with a specific date to be announced later. The original deadline was October 15. This deferral aims to avoid disrupting retail payments during the busy festive season and provides payment companies more time to prepare their systems. MDR is a fee merchants pay for digital payment acceptance.

National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)
