India's Scotch Probe Risks Undermining UK Trade Pact, Liquor Makers Say
Business Standard · business
India's investigation into bulk Scotch imports may violate provisions of the recent India-UK trade deal, according to a letter from the International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI). The group, representing major distillers like Diageo and Pernod Ricard, stated that Indian investigators have indicated the reduced 75% tariff does not apply to bulk Scotch concentrates. This move risks undermining a key market-access benefit negotiated in the pact, potentially impacting significant trade flows. The British government is reportedly working with India to resolve the issue.
