Jio: Satellite Broadband Unlikely to Scale or Compete on Price in India
Business Standard · business
Jio Platforms Limited (JPL) believes satellite broadband services will struggle to gain significant traction in India's connected and affordable market. The company cited the rapid expansion of fixed wireless access (FWA) as a key reason, noting FWA offers comparable performance at lower costs. JPL also stated satellite services are unlikely to compete effectively on pricing, pointing to Starlink's higher monthly plans in other countries. While evaluating its own satellite constellation, Jio sees potential for satellite technology in specialized remote use cases where terrestrial roll-out is challenging.
