Uttarkashi Bans Trekking Above 4,000m Due To Heavy Snowfall

Times of India · environment

Authorities in Uttarkashi have prohibited trekking on routes exceeding 4,000 metres in reserved forest areas, including the popular Gaumukh-Tapovan trail in Gangotri National Park. This decision follows heavy snowfall in the higher Himalayan regions, making the trekking routes unsafe due to significant snow accumulation. The forest department has stopped issuing permits for these hazardous trails until conditions improve and the routes are assessed as safe. However, Nelang Valley and Gartang Gali remain open to tourists, with restrictions specifically targeting snow-affected trekking paths.
