Fisherfolk in villages along Chennai's Marina Loop Road have staged protests, hoisting black flags to oppose the state government's proposal to build a new Secretariat at Foreshore Estate. They are demanding the return of lands originally belonging to Srinivasapuram and the construction of new houses for 15,000 families. Fishermen leaders stated that they are protesting because their grievances have not been discussed with them. They have submitted their demands to the Chief Minister's Special Cell and plan further protests to draw attention to their issues.
