RBI May Shift Govt Borrowing To Shorter Tenures

Economic Times Markets · stocks

Traders anticipate the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will favour shorter-term government securities in the second half of the fiscal year. This shift could help manage the banking system's surplus liquidity. Issuances in the 5-7 year range are expected to be prominent, potentially making up 35% of total borrowing, an increase from previous periods. The RBI will announce its borrowing calendar soon, aiming to raise ₹7.9 lakh crore in government bonds. This strategy aligns with strong banking appetite for these shorter-duration bonds.
