Delhi-UP Jurisdictional Hurdle Halts Yamuna Clean-up Projects
Times of India · environment
Two crucial projects aimed at cleaning the Yamuna River at the Okhla Barrage, which suffers from severe froth formation, are stalled due to a jurisdictional dispute between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Delhi has allocated funds for building a permanent Chhath ghat and conducting a scientific study on froth reduction. However, the Okhla Barrage and downstream areas fall under UP's irrigation department, delaying progress. Delhi has transferred Rs 91 lakh for the study and Rs 68.4 crore for the ghat construction, but awaits action and signed agreements from UP officials.
