Bolsa Chica Wetlands Restoration Revives Ecosystem

Hindustan Times · environment

The Bolsa Chica Lowlands Restoration Project in California has successfully restored nearly 600 acres of marine and wetland habitat. This initiative, funded by ports in exchange for mitigation credits, reopened a tidal basin to the Pacific in 2006. The restoration has led to a significant increase in wildlife, with over 10,000 birds counted in one survey and the discovery of commercially valuable fish species. The project also provides crucial nesting grounds for endangered species like the western snowy plover and California least tern, demonstrating the success of habitat restoration efforts.
