Odisha Trains Kumki Elephants To Curb Conflict

Odisha's Forest Department has established a specialised Kumki Elephant Training Centre at Kumarakhunti, near Bhubaneswar. This centre rehabilitates and trains young elephants that are orphaned, injured, or separated from their herds. The primary role of these trained elephants is to assist authorities in managing human-elephant conflicts. They achieve this by guiding wild elephant herds away from populated human settlements, thereby reducing potential clashes and ensuring safety for both humans and animals. The facility is well-equipped with shelters, bathing areas, a kitchen, and play spaces for the elephants.

ओडिशा के वन विभाग ने भुवनेश्वर के पास कुमारखुंटी में एक विशेष कुमकी हाथी प्रशिक्षण केंद्र स्थापित किया है। यह केंद्र अनाथ, घायल या झुंड से बिछड़े युवा हाथियों को पुनर्वासित और प्रशिक्षित करता है। इन प्रशिक्षित हाथियों की मुख्य भूमिका मानव-हाथी संघर्षों के प्रबंधन में अधिकारियों की सहायता करना है। वे जंगली हाथियों के झुंड को आबादी वाले मानव बस्तियों से दूर ले जाकर संभावित टकराव को कम करते हैं और मनुष्यों और जानवरों दोनों की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करते हैं। यह सुविधा हाथियों के लिए आश्रयों, नहाने के क्षेत्रों, रसोई और खेलने के स्थानों से अच्छी तरह सुसज्जित है।
