Kerala Advocates Propose Bill For Protection Against Assault, Threats

The Kerala High Court Advocates Association has proposed the Keralam Advocates Protection Bill, 2021, to safeguard lawyers, their families, and staff from assault and intimidation. The draft legislation suggests a punishment of up to five years imprisonment and a ₹1 lakh fine for offenders. It also mandates that acts of violence against legal professionals will be non-bailable offences. The recent death of an advocate's father, reportedly due to an attack, served as the immediate trigger for this proposed bill.

केरल हाई कोर्ट एडवोकेट्स एसोसिएशन ने वकीलों, उनके परिवारों और कर्मचारियों को हमले और डराने-धमकाने से बचाने के लिए केरलम एडवोकेट्स प्रोटेक्शन बिल, 2021 का प्रस्ताव रखा है। मसौदा कानून में अपराधियों के लिए पांच साल तक की जेल और ₹1 लाख जुर्माने का सुझाव दिया गया है। इसमें यह भी अनिवार्य किया गया है कि कानूनी पेशेवरों के खिलाफ हिंसा के कृत्य गैर-जमानती अपराध होंगे। हाल ही में एक वकील के पिता की कथित हमले के कारण हुई मौत इस प्रस्तावित बिल के लिए तत्काल कारण बनी।
