The US Navy is advancing the W93/Mk7 nuclear warhead program, marking the first new warhead development in nearly four decades. This initiative has entered the Engineering and Manufacturing Development phase, aiming to modernize the sea-based leg of the US nuclear deterrent. The W93 warhead, paired with the Mk7 reentry body, will be integrated into the Navy's Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic missile system. This program seeks to provide flexibility and ensure an uninterrupted nuclear deterrent capability at sea.
