The Hindu · india

CPI(M) leader M.A. Baby has appealed to President Droupadi Murmu to intervene and request the Union government to withdraw recent amendments to the Census Rules. These changes permit the hiring of private individuals, including teachers from private institutions and employees of trusts and PSUs, as census enumerators. Mr. Baby expressed concerns that this move could lead to arbitrary and politically motivated appointments, potentially compromising the impartiality and confidentiality of the census process.
