Google Co-founder Sergey Brin Donates $102 Million To Oppose California Wealth Tax
Times of India · business
Google co-founder Sergey Brin has become the largest donor against California's proposed wealth tax, contributing $102 million to a political action committee. This measure, Proposition 40, would impose a one-time 5% tax on the state's 200 billionaires, potentially costing Brin around $13 billion. Brin has likened the proposal to socialism, citing his family's emigration from such a system. Governor Gavin Newsom also opposes the tax, arguing it could harm social services and investment. Other billionaires, including Eric Schmidt and Peter Thiel, have also donated to opposition groups.
