Movie 'Whalefall' Features Sperm Whale Swallowing Person, Anatomically Possible

Hindustan Times · entertainment

The new film 'Whalefall' depicts a diver being swallowed whole by a sperm whale, a scenario that is anatomically possible due to the whale's throat size. While sperm whales could technically swallow a person, there are no recorded instances of this happening. Other whale species, like humpbacks, have incidentally engulfed humans in their mouths while feeding, but always spat them out unharmed. Director Brian Duffield aims to portray whales as heroes, contrasting with fearsome portrayals like in 'Jaws'. The film is based on Daniel Kraus's 2023 novel.
