Fox News World · world

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro has won the first round of Brazil's presidential election, exceeding pollster expectations and setting up a runoff against incumbent President Ignacio Lula da Silva. With 99% of votes counted, Bolsonaro led Lula 47.2% to 44.9%, a result that challenges the accuracy of pre-election polls. Bolsonaro performed strongly in his southern strongholds, including Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro. This outcome continues a trend of right-wing victories across Latin America, aligning with a broader conservative shift in the region.
