Centre Tightens Sugar Stock Limits for Dealers Amid Festive Demand

Hindustan Times - Business · business

The Centre has imposed stricter stockholding limits on sugar dealers to ensure availability and reasonable prices during the upcoming festive season. Effective October 15 until November 30, dealers can hold a maximum of 1,000 quintals of sugar for no more than 15 days. Exceptions are made for Kolkata and Assam, allowing up to 2,000 quintals due to logistical considerations. This measure aims to prevent hoarding and speculative trading, supporting the government's expectation of further retail price drops.
