Eminent scholar of modern Indian history, Sumit Sarkar, has passed away at the age of 87. His significant contributions to historical scholarship include seminal works such as 'Swadeshi Movement in Bengal, 1903-1908' and 'Modern India'. He also co-edited 'Women and Social Reform in Modern India' and 'Caste in Modern India' with his wife, Tanika Sarkar.
