US Spares India's Speciality Drugs From Tariff

The US will not impose any ad valorem tariff on certain speciality drugs and related ingredients imported from India and 19 other countries. This exemption applies to products used in treating rare medical conditions, infertility, cell and gene therapies, and animal pharmaceuticals. The move comes as Washington prepares to levy a 100 per cent tariff on certain patented pharmaceutical imports from September 29. Generic pharmaceutical products and their ingredients are also not subject to these tariffs.

अमेरिका भारत और 19 अन्य देशों से आयातित कुछ खास दवाओं और संबंधित सामग्री पर कोई एड वलोरम टैरिफ नहीं लगाएगा। यह छूट दुर्लभ बीमारियों, बांझपन, सेल और जीन थेरेपी और पशु फार्मास्यूटिकल्स के इलाज में इस्तेमाल होने वाले उत्पादों पर लागू होती है। यह कदम ऐसे समय में आया है जब वाशिंगटन 29 सितंबर से कुछ पेटेंटेड फार्मास्युटिकल आयात पर 100 प्रतिशत टैरिफ लगाने की तैयारी कर रहा है। जेनेरिक फार्मास्युटिकल उत्पाद और उनकी सामग्री भी इन टैरिफ के अधीन नहीं हैं।
